Pyrenees's Cup 2025

The Pyrenees's Cup 2025 is planned

from the 3rd to the 5th of October 2025

Toulouse and its nice area , known for good food, vine and interesting tourist sites in the close vicinity is hosting this event of the 2025 Eurotour and counting for the 2025 FAI F3F World Cup. The organization is assured by the model airplane club of Eole Muret (near Toulouse).

General

The region and the meteo in the south west of France is dominated by the Pyrenees mountains that are creating an airflow either from the Mediterranean See to the Atlantic Ocean or vice-versa. Consequently , only two wind directions are experienced and are leading to the two slopes that are selected for the FAI contest:
  • Saint Ferriol (near Quillan) for north-western winds
  • Laurac le Grand for south-eastern winds (called "Vent d'Autan")
Both slopes are approx. 75km away from each other which is not very practical but weather forecast is reliable in the region an permits to select the slope two or one days before the competition. It is consequently important to stay in contact the organizers team (via internet or phone) in order to know the selected slope.

A lot of F3F competitions have been flown on both slopes and a very successful French Championships were held in St. Ferriol in 2007, in Laurac 2010 and of course numerous Contest-Eurotour contests since 2007, the Viking Race in 2010 and the successful 2024 FAI F3F World championships with 55 pilots and 17 rounds in total. A unique record has been set during the World Champs 2024 on Saint Ferriol slope with 330 timed flights, leading to 6 rounds with 55 pilots. Just have a look on some pictures in the Photo Gallery. Saint Ferriol is certainly the preferred slope as well Escueillens slope with a sharp edge with limited thermal influence. Laurac has no sharp profile and the famous Vent d'Autan is in most cases quiet strong with thermal influence.

Parking and accommodation on the three slopes is the same with cars close to the flying area and no significant walking distance but protection against cold and windy conditions is very important.

For the precise location of slopes, please refer and print out the maps.
