Registration of pilots on the slope and frequency verification will start on Friday morning from 9:00am and will end 12:00am. Flights must stop at 11:45 as the briefing will be held from 12:00 to 12:30. In order to achieve a maximum number of rounds, flights will start on Saturday and Sunday morning around 9:00am and flying will end when daylight becomes insufficient. On Sunday, it is intended to start no round after 2:30pm, except of the validation of the contest is endangered (see description above).

Tomorrow's slope will be Laurac. Please keep the slope free from cars. At the road crossing, you find a nice parking that should be able to accomodate quite a number of vehicles.

Saturdays slope is expected to be Escueillens but we will confirm tomorrow before leaving the slope.

Please don't forget drinking devices and a spoon if you would like to put milk or sugar in your coffee.

As usual, Please keep the slope tidy because local authorities have a good opinion of us and I would like to keep this condition as long as possible. Don't forget that we would like to use these slopes for the World Champs in 2024.

Don't forget your sanitary pass. French law imposes us to check for all persons on the slope that sanitary pass is valid. We will scan your QR-code during registration and you will be in trouble to go back to Castelnaudary to find a service that is prepared to do quickly a PCR test.
Don't push us in a situation, where we are obliged to refuse a pilot. We have to protect all people on the slope, pilots and officials.

Thanks for your understanding and your active help.

See tomorrow morning on the slope

Flying Order

 Dear Pilots,

Please find below the Flying order. Starting pilot will be drawn randomly during the briefing.

Some more info

 Dear pilots

For the pilots who will arrive early and would like to perform training flight, please respect the following rules:
Flying is allowed with no restrictions on the slopes of Saint Ferriol (light and strong North-Western wind) and Laurac (light South-Easter wind).
In case of strong wind from South-Eastern direction, the slope of Escueillens is preferrable but this spot in the middle of a French Airforce low flying zone. Low flying meens ground level to 800ft and farmers confirmed that jets pass in an altutude of less then 20m. This low flying zone is generally open from 9:00am to 11:00am, but dedicate annoucement is made roughly 48h before and  specifies the zones that will be in use.
I will inform by mail the evening before every day where flying will be suitable and in case of Escueillens, I will tell the hours of acive zone or not.
Many pilots took the oportunity and the pleasure to join the restaurant for the Saturday evening dinner. Together with the judges, we are actually 26 pilots and I will be happy to see most you for a drink or two. If you have special requirements for he meal, PLS let me know and I will check with the restaurant.
If you intend to join us for the restaurant, PLS let me know. The price is 28€ and wine and coffee is included. I will ask for payment latest during the registriation in cash, but I prefer PayPal to a friend of 28€:
Kind wishes from Toulouse

Pyrénées Cup is in less than 2 weeks !

 Dear pilots

In less than 2 weeks, the Pyrénées Cup will start for 3 days of competition. I have started the first expenses and ordered the nice trophies for the winners. For sure I will limit the expenses for the unlikely event of late cancellation. But I am convinced that this situation will not arrive. 53 pilots have registered and only two positions are still open for last minute registration (see on F3XVault). Please find some important information concerning this year’s organisation:

1. Planning

Time schedule is as usual and in case of questions PLS have a look to the information on this website.

2. COVID precautions

French government and French aeromodelling federation imposes a valid Sanity Pass and during registration, we will check the validity of your pass. We accept mobile version on smart phone or printed paper version. Valid Sanity Pass implies either full vaccination pass with associated delay (7 days after second dose in France), immunity certificate for those who have passed the Corona disease or a valid PCR test, not older than 72hours. This obligation is for as valid for the organisers team and friends and helpers during the contest. We count on your understanding for these measures that aims to protect you as participants as well as the officials. If you have any need to know where you can perform a PCR test, I will be prepared to provide relevant information.

3. Environmental precautions

Following las week ends French Championship, we have had some difficulties with the farmers way on the last 800m to the slope. This way is partially composed of clay ground and in case of rain, this way might become a problem. In order to limit the degradation of this way, PLS try as much as possible to limit the number of cars on the slope and share your car at least for the last mile as much as reasonable with other pilots. In case of dry weather conditions, no problem to use the way with many cars. We are actually actively working with the mayor to provide some financial help to maintain this farmers way. Some money from the registration fees will go in this activity to consolidate our long-term relation with the small town of Saint Ferriol. The mayor is really kind and friendly and is willing to help us.

4. Saturday evening dinner

Based on the uncertain COVID situation, no official banquet will be held, but the rules now allow to take a dinner together. I always like to celebrate such international contest with a meal together and I have asked the restaurant "La Carabène" whether they would like to receive us and propose a nice dinner with preferential cost (vine and coffee included). PLS find attached the proposal from the restaurant for 28€. If you want to participate on voluntary bases, PLS let me know during the next days. The restaurant must order fresh products, so we need to know the number of participants roughly one week before the contest. Thanks to keep me posted.

5. Entries

If you have any questions around the contest and the organisation, PLS do not hesitate and come back to me. Further information will follow close to the contest.

Kind wishes from Toulouse and stay safe.

Some key information

Dear pilots

You have either registered successfully to the Pyrénées Cup or your are actually on the waiting list (5 pilots) through F3XVault interface. Please find below some key information for the preparation of this contest.

With the help of Pierre Rondel, the home page of the Pyrénées Cup has been updated and you find the usual information about the slopes, the plannings etc.

Up to now, I did not provide payment information and I did not activate the payment system in F3XVault for the simple reason that any payment made with F3X is recognized as a commercial operation and so charges occur and the organiser looses around 3€ or even more. In a tight budget situation, this is not really nice and so I prefer alternative payment instructions to avoid these PayPal fees. To give early indications to pilots on the waiting list, please perform payment befor the 15th of August (money arrival on my account) with the following transfer means:

PayPal to friend (avoiding fees): a.fricke2(arobase)

SEPA (SWIFT) transfer: Bank: Andreas FRICKE; Fortuneo Bank; IBAN: FR7614518292670092490724095; BIC: FTNOFRP1XXX

The registration fees are 45€ for adult and 20€ for junior pilots. The organiser will reduce expenses to strict minimum (or none) to be in a position to return funds in case that restrictions are put back in place that renders the organisation impossible.

We do not plan a banquet due to the uncertain situation, but if conditions allow, we will either go together to a restaurant (volunteer basis) or we will try to organise a BBQ on the slope. We will see what is possible.

If you have the firm intention to participate, PLS perform your payment before the 15th of August (17 days from now) because this deadline passed, I will cancel your registration (shifted to the waiting list) to give the slot to a pilot on the waiting list.

For any further question, PLS come back to me and we will see what we can do.

Thanks in advance for your understanding and your support.

Kind wishes from Toulouse

Pyrenees's Cup 2021

The Pyrenees's Cup 2021 is planned

from the 1st to the 3th of October 2021

Toulouse and its nice area , known for good food, vine and interesting tourist sites in the close vincinity is hosting this event of the 2018 Eurotour. The organization is assured by the model airplane club of Eole Muret (near Toulouse).

The region and the meteo in the south west of France is dominated by the Pyrenees mountains that are creating an airflow either from the Mediterranean See to the Atlantic Ocean or vice-versa. Consequently , only two wind directions are experienced and are leading to the two slopes that are selected for the FAI contest:
  • Saint Ferriol (near Quillan) for north-western winds
  • Laurac le Grand for south-eastern winds (called "Vent d'Autan")
Both slopes are approx. 75km away from each other which is not very practical but weather forecast is reliable in the region an permits to select the slope two or one days before the competition. It is consequently important to stay in contact the organizers team (via internet or phone) in order to know the selected slope.

A lot of F3F competitions have been flown on both slopes and a very successful French Championships were held in St. Ferriol in 2007, in Laurac 2010 and of course FAI/Eurotour contests in 2007, 2008, 2009 and the Viking Race in 2010 and again FAI/Eurotour in 2011 and 2013. Just have a look on some pictures in the Photo Gallery. Saint Ferriol is certainly the preferred slope as we find there a sharp edge with limited thermal influence. Laurac has no sharp profile and the famous Vent d'Autan is in most cases quiet strong with thermal influence. The chance to fly on one or the other slope is 50/50.

Parking and accommodation on both spots is the same with cars close to the flying area and no significant walking distance but protection against cold and windy conditions is very important.

For the precise location of slopes, please refer and print out the maps.

Registration has been performed on F3XVault and actual status can be checked on:

A waiting list has been opened and registration is possible with the following link:

Payment shall be received not later than the 15th of August to confirm participation to the event. With no payment received, pilots from the waiting list will be automatically transferred to the participants list on the 16th of August and will receive a dedicated E-Mail to allow preparation for travel and accommodation. Thanks for understanding and please ensure payment in time.

As it is still impossible to predict the future and the evolution of the Corona Crises, only the necessary expenses will be made upfront and organisation team aims to refund the registration fees in case of event cancellation.

For payment instructions, PLS refer to the registration page.

Individual information will be sent to pilots on the waiting list to inform about open slots for the contest.

Le nombre de pilotes est limité à 55. L’enregistrement doit être confirmer par le paiement pas plus tard que le 15 août.
